Explaining Those Strange Dinner Posts Gwyneth Paltrow Dropped After Backlash (Hint: It Was A Troll)

Gwyneth Paltrow has always been a polarizing character in Hollywood, whether that’s for rumors like the one that she only drinks bone broth or the products she peddles through her Goop lifestyle brand (you know I’m talking about the vagina candle). But as someone who’s been around the entertainment business her entire life, she really doesn’t seem to care. Case in point: She recently posted some strange dinner invitations on social media as a way of trolling critics after some AI-related backlash. Let me explain.

Gwyneth Paltrow Received Backlash For ‘Off The Record’ Dinner Invitation

The Se7en actress received quite a bit of backlash this week after Matthew Belloni reported on Puck that she was hosting a dinner in honor of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Social media users have been passionate about calling out people for using “AI slop,” even for (especially for?) silly reasons like M. Night Shyamalan’s AI pic with LeBron James, so of course they didn’t take too kindly to the invitation, which reportedly read:

Gwyneth Paltrow invites you to a private, off-the-record al fresco dinner at her home in honor of Sam Altman.

People responded swiftly and intensely to the upcoming celebration of the OpenAI boss (the owner of ChatGPT), whose net worth is reportedly $3.5 billion. Responses on X (Twitter) included:

  • Gwyneth Paltrow is hosting an event at her home specifically to honor Sam Altman because she’s that much of a tone-deaf dumbass.eternallyRaq
  • Lol this new era where gwyneth’s not even trying to hide being a villain anymore like fuck off liamgareau
  • How many times does she have to do stuff like this before she loses the tone deaf angle and people just realize she sucks and uses that image to disguise it WordsFromBlerds

The Puck newsletter also included an image of the supposed dinner invitation, which was allegedly created with the help of AI, so we can’t be sure this is really what Gwyneth Paltrow sent to guests. It is, however, the image she used to troll her critics.

Gwyneth Paltrow Responds To AI Backlash With More Dinner Invitations

That brings us to the weird Instagram post that features invitations to more off-the-record dinners in honor of M3GAN, Sex and the City’s Samantha Jones, Shrek, Jessica Rabbit and Chanty Beluga, the viral TikTok character created by comedian Courtney O’Donnell. Check it out below:

Alongside the invitations honoring these fictional characters, Gwyneth Paltrow penned the mocking caption:

We’re serving swordfish burritos, cheddar foam lattes on request.

(I know it’s probably the least-noteworthy part of this whole ordeal, but the thought of “cheddar foam” is enough to ruin my whole day.)

So whether Gwyneth Paltrow is indicating that the Sam Altman dinner is as fictional as Jessica Rabbit or that she simply doesn’t care what people think of her dinner guests, she’s clearly choosing to laugh in the face of controversy.

This, of course, isn’t the first time she’s taken to trolling. After her ex-husband Chris Martin accidentally outed the affair between former Astronomer executives Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot, the Oscar winner shot an ad for Astronomer poking fun at the viral Coldplay “Kiss Cam” moment.

If you want to see more of Gwyneth Paltrow not being a troll, catch her in Marty Supreme, which is streaming now with an HBO Max subscription.
